Entry #10: Nuclear Cars

Image
It should be made clear from the start that this idea is purely theoretical. Under no circumstances should this be made into a real thing. With that out of the way, installing nuclear reactors into cars could be a beneficial thing. To start, nuclear fuel is highly efficient, with so much fuel in one small thing. According to sources, nuclear energy has a 92.5% energy factor, making it more efficient than regular fuel, with less stop time and more distance being covered. But what about the driver and passengers in the car? Won’t they be affected by the radiation? The simple solution is the build the car with a material mostly consisting of lead. It has been proven that shielding materials such as lead protect a person from the harms of radiation. However, the con that comes from this idea is that one of the downsides is that accidents become much more severe. When a car gets into an accident, the surrounding area will be affected with heat, radiation, and, depending on how many pe...

Entry #9: Topics in Food Quest

Image
The drawing that I chose I felt should be shared with the class is about two men, one behind a stand with the sign that says FAST FOOD, the second man is a customer looking up at the sign and sarcastically remarking how it was clever to include an ‘S’ in the word FAST. I chose this comic because it is a simple and effective way to subtly hint at the fact that fast food may be fast, but it isn’t healthy. The customer’s remark implies that the sign would really mean FAT FOOD, which is true, because consuming fast food regularly increases a person's weight and has to many unhealthy ingredients in it. This drawing is relevant because it shows a truth to fast food businesses, it may be fast to serve its customers in only a few short minutes, but it is also serves as a downside because while it may satisfy hunger, it also harms the consumer

Entry #8: Un-Obese the Morbidly

Image
Obesity is a major problem around the world, especially in the United States. According to statistics, around 100 million people in the United States alone suffer from obesity. This is why a theoretical proposal was made to create something to fix that problem. This proposal will bring something forth called 'Fat Camps'. The idea for these Fat Camps will be for the obese and the obese only. Morbidly obese people will be brought to these Fat Camps in order to lose weight. The people here will not receive inhumane treatment and will be treated to accommodate their needs, such as private rooms and bathrooms. The people here will have to lose weight through activities and exercise (Walking, hiking, swimming, etc.). The morbidly obese at the Fat Camps will be treated fairly, those will special needs such as disability will receive more attention from staff. Doctor-recommended diets will be placed and there will be daily exercise implemented. These Fat Camps will be legally enforced...

Entry #7: Fresh

The purpose of the film documentary Fresh is explain to the audience the importance of agriculture and how farm life is being sustained by the farmers and the animals. The film also states how many Americans live in a situation called 'Food Deserts' where they are unable to purchase fresh farm food like fruits and vegetables because access to a farm is impossible for them. There is no real target audience this film is trying to direct to, this film is for anyone to watch and learn from. The tone of this film is casual/professional, this documentary dives deep into how life as a farmer is and how important taking care of the livestock and crops really is. Because of farmers, many Americans are able to gain access to good fresh foods and vegetables with plenty more to spare. Americans should know about the issues regarding the food we eat because most of it is processed food, which is unhealthy compared to the fresh farm food. We should care about the agriculture because if ther...

Entry #6: Statistically speaking...

Image
If you are reading this, then I presume that you know what Russian Roulette is. But if you don’t, it is a game originating around the late 1800s in Russia that involves a certain number of players (at least two) and a revolver with a single round loaded. The players will then place the muzzle either to themselves or to their opponent. A fairly lethal game that ends with at least one person dying. However, people claim that the game is lethal and wrong to play, it is gambling with your life and you will most likely lose, but the game isn’t always lethal. The game is not as full of death as people make it out to be. Statistically speaking, Russian Roulette could be considered a safe game to play, as crazy as it sounds. If you were to interview 100 people who have played Russian Roulette, all 100 of those people have survived the game and lived to tell the tale. So, if we’re talking about statistics here, it means that Russian Roulette is 100% safe since the survival rate is 100%. A...

Entry #5: Mayhem

The Mayhem Bear commercial is one that promotes the Allstate insurance. The advertisement states explicitly that the insurance will cover the costs of damages to property such as to your car. The ad is designed to be humorous to keep the audience engaged with the content. It is promoting to people who need good insurance so that they don’t pay out of pocket for every damage they take to their property. Rhetorically, the ad shows a bear coming out of hibernation in the woods and approaching a clean, undamaged car. The rhetorical bear proceeds to rip the door off the hinges and destroys the side-view mirror. The commercial states that the Allstate insurance will cover the costs for all of those damages. The atmosphere of the ad is set in a casual setting near a hiking trail in the woods. The weather is calm and beautiful, people are heard in the background laughing and chatting for a split second before they leave the scene. This implies that any and all incidents or accidents done...

Entry #4: Using an immoral to eliminate a immoral

Image
People often think DUIs are sinful, chaotic in nature, and foul play. However, what if I told you that wasn’t always the case? If perhaps it was a better alternative than not? What if the argument was made that drinking and driving could be ethical? The argument would sound ridiculous, and nobody would listen. Something so immoral couldn’t possibly have any use to anyone involved. Unless it did hold some use, more than what the average person could think of. How immoral is something if you can use it to stop something more evil? Take Joseph Stalin, for example. Stalin wanted to spread communism throughout Europe and divide Germany after World War 2 so that it could not threaten Europe again. Stalin did many immoral things considered worse than a DUI, which brings us back to the previous question of what if drinking and driving could be ethical. Drinking and driving is considered sinful, and killing a person while drinking and driving is horrible, but what if the person that was k...
