Entry #7: Fresh

The purpose of the film documentary Fresh is explain to the audience the importance of agriculture and how farm life is being sustained by the farmers and the animals. The film also states how many Americans live in a situation called 'Food Deserts' where they are unable to purchase fresh farm food like fruits and vegetables because access to a farm is impossible for them. There is no real target audience this film is trying to direct to, this film is for anyone to watch and learn from.

The tone of this film is casual/professional, this documentary dives deep into how life as a farmer is and how important taking care of the livestock and crops really is. Because of farmers, many Americans are able to gain access to good fresh foods and vegetables with plenty more to spare. Americans should know about the issues regarding the food we eat because most of it is processed food, which is unhealthy compared to the fresh farm food. We should care about the agriculture because if there are very few farmers to produce food or only one place to get food from, then we'd been very vulnerable.

A part of this documentary that surprised me was at the beginning with the treatment of the multiple baby chicks, such as how they were delivered and how they were treated. They were delivered in these tight and closely packed containers and they were treated roughly. Around the 4-minute mark, the farmers are seen throwing them at the ground after picking them up in a basket. While the chicks didn't seem to be hurt, the sudden scene still surprised me.

  1. You make a great point about the importance of understanding agriculture and the challenges farmers face. The documentary Fresh does a great job of highlighting the issues around food deserts and the impact of processed food. I agree, the treatment of the baby chicks was a surprising and eye-opening moment in the film. It really shows how much we need to rethink our food systems.

  2. I really like the way you explained the film fresh. I also was shocked at the baby chicks and how there must've been 1000s of them. It was crazy to think about!

  3. Good start here. A bit more of an overview of the main concepts from the film or the reasons why readers should consider viewing it would take this post to the next level.
