Entry #8: Un-Obese the Morbidly

Obesity is a major problem around the world, especially in the United States. According to statistics, around 100 million people in the United States alone suffer from obesity. This is why a theoretical proposal was made to create something to fix that problem. This proposal will bring something forth called 'Fat Camps'.

The idea for these Fat Camps will be for the obese and the obese only. Morbidly obese people will be brought to these Fat Camps in order to lose weight. The people here will not receive inhumane treatment and will be treated to accommodate their needs, such as private rooms and bathrooms. The people here will have to lose weight through activities and exercise (Walking, hiking, swimming, etc.). The morbidly obese at the Fat Camps will be treated fairly, those will special needs such as disability will receive more attention from staff. Doctor-recommended diets will be placed and there will be daily exercise implemented.

These Fat Camps will be legally enforced and in case nobody there agrees with the law, security will be put up through workers and metal fences. These metal fences will have thick bars and be wide enough so that an average weighed person will be able to walk through. A person will know if they completed their trail through the Fat Camps when they will be able to walk through the fence with ease.

The reason for the Fat Camps existing is because not only is obesity a real problem that effects millions of people globally, but those millions of people losing weight will greatly improve the work force. A study has been done and it is estimated that there is about a 4.4% decline in productivity associated with obesity. So not only will these Fat Camps improve a person's health and way of life, it will also improve production in the work force.

  1. It’s an interesting idea to tackle obesity, though the whole mandatory part and metal fences might feel a bit much for some. But the focus on health and productivity is definitely a good point.

  2. I fear that America over looks obesity as to be body positive, while people come in all shapes and sizes ad everyone is beautiful no matter what i think people tend to overlook the health risks for the wellbeing of people.

  3. You are suggesting a punitive measure to tackle this problem, which is proven not to work as evidence by Conversion Therapy and even our own prison industrial complex. You seem to have a limited understanding of what you are proposing. For a high capacity facility with security such as this... perhaps you are recommending throwing Americans into CECOT?

I think that while you were looking for a shocking splashing entry, the more meaningful way to handle this would be to tackle the source of the problems (prevalence of fast food, restructuring of work culture, etc.) We saw through the pandemic lockdowns that when people were not leashed to either their car for a 2-3 hours of commuting, and a desk for 10+ hours a day in the office, health improved.

  4. The tone, suggested solution, and lack of outside support (i.e. the one statistic you include isn't hyperlinked or sourced) impact your ethos and ability to engage the reader with a serious consideration of this topic.
